Stranded in Nova Scotia Reflection
I decided to add this piece because it's one of my favorites and it's part of a genre that I didn’t have any experience with working with. This piece is a survival story that I created in the 10th grade for my Honors English 10 class. The unit we were studying was survival and it was based off of the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. The novel is about a group of young boys who become stranded on a deserted island and must fight for their survival against both the elements of nature and each other. The project assignment was to create a survival story about a group of my classmates and myself. When I was given this assignment I honestly thought that I would struggle with it because before reading the novel The Lord Of the Flies that year, I hadn’t had any experience with reading survival stories- yet alone writing one. But surprisingly, I had a lot of fun writing it and I think that I exceeded my goal. My piece is a 1st person narrative in a diary format from my point of view about my four friends and I being stranded in Nova Scotia. We decided that we wanted the story to take place in a very isolated place to make the story more interesting for the readers.
